Processing a configuration can create Distinct Products, Product Masters, and Product Variants in your Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O environment. These products must then be released in your Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O companies before they can be used in the company-specific context, such as references within a bill of materials (BOM). Experlogix supports automatically releasing configured products if certain conditions are met, as outlined in Automatically Release Products, but users may manually release products as well. In either case, the integration allows Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O users to release configured products to any companies in their environment. See Intercompany for more information on intercompany processing.
Automatically Release Products
The Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O integration includes logic to automatically release products as needed when processing a configuration. The Requirements list below outlines the requirements that must be met for the automatic product release to happen.
Requirements
-
The Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O processor is processing an entity with a BOMVersion or RouteVersion entity with a company argument in its metadata
-
There's a node in the process document that has one of the following:
-
A parent entity EcoResReleasedProductEntity/EcoResReleasedProductVariantEntity
-
An entity on the same level with entity EcoResReleasedProductEntity/EcoResReleasedProductVariantEntity
-
-
The Product Master or Variant does not exist in the specified company or companies
Set Item Model Group During Automatic Product Release
When a product is automatically released, the integration supports setting the Item Model Group in the target company. This is controlled using the REL_ItemModelGroup field, which is available on the EcoResReleasedProductEntity processing entity.
The logic for determining the Item Model Group value follows these rules:
-
If the process document includes a REL_ItemModelGroup value for the EcoResReleasedProductEntity node, that value is used when releasing the product in the specified company.
-
If the process document includes the REL_ItemModelGroup field but it is explicitly empty, the product is released with an intentionally empty Item Model Group in the target company.
-
If the process document does not include the REL_ItemModelGroup field at all, the Item Model Group is inherited from the product’s item card in the source company.
This behavior ensures that you can intentionally control or defer the Item Model Group assignment as needed during the automatic release process.
Manually Release Products
To release configured products manually, go to the Release product to company page in Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O and select the product you wish to release from the table or create a new row. Each release operation must contain the configured product you wish to release and the company to which you would like to release it.
Product Release Logging
As long as logging is active, product releases are logged on the Experlogix Logging page. For Product Masters, the name of the product and the company or companies to which it is released are noted. For Product Variants, the log contains the Product Master name, the variant name, and the company or companies to which it is released.
